Troubleshooting

Common issues and how to fix them.

Connection Issues

"Connection not found" (HTTP 400)

Error:

{"detail": "Connection not found"}

Cause: The server cannot find a WebSocket connection with the ID you provided.

Solutions:

  1. Check the ID: Ensure you copied the exact WebSocket ID from the extension popup. It changes if you reinstall or fully reset the extension.
  2. Is Extension Connected? Open the extension popup. It must say Connected ✓.
  3. Reconnect: Click the extension icon. If it says "Disconnected", wait for it to auto-reconnect.
  4. Browser Closed: Ensure Chrome is open and running.

Extension Stuck on "Connecting..."

Cause: The extension cannot reach our relay server (wss://app.aimodeapi.com).

Solutions:

  1. Check Internet: Ensure you have a stable internet connection.
  2. Firewall/VPN: Some corporate firewalls block WebSocket connections. Try disabling your VPN.
  3. Reload Extension: Go to chrome://extensions, toggle the extension off and then on again.

Request Issues

"Request to extension timed out" (HTTP 504)

Error:

{"detail": "Request to extension timed out"}

Cause: The request took longer than 60 seconds to process.

Solutions:

  1. Simplify Query: Complex queries take longer for Google AI Mode to generate.
  2. Browser Performance: If your computer is slow or Chrome is under heavy load, processing slows down.
  3. Google Latency: Sometimes Google AI Mode itself is slow. Try again in a moment.

Empty Response / "AI Mode not available"

Cause: The extension opened the page, but didn't find the expected AI answer.

Solutions:

  1. Check Access: Manually go to google.com/search?udm=50 in the same browser. Can you see/use AI Mode manually?
  2. Login Status: Ensure you are still logged into your Google account.
  3. Language/Region: AI Mode might be unavailable in your current region or language setting.

"Pending request found"

Cause: You tried to send a new request while the previous one was still processing. The extension currently handles one request at a time per tab.

Solution: Wait for the previous request to complete before sending a new one, or use multiple browser profiles (advanced) for concurrency.

Still having trouble?

If none of these work:

  1. Right-click the extension icon -> Inspect Popup -> Console. Look for red error messages.
  2. Right-click the extension in chrome://extensions -> Inspect views: background page/service worker. Check the console there for logs.
  3. Contact support at support@aimode.com.
